Gobelin tulle — also known as gauze or scrim — is a lightweight, open-weave fabric made from 95% cotton and 5% polyester. Weighing 90 g/m² and featuring an open weave, it has unique visual properties that make it indispensable in theatre and events.
The fabric is opaque when lit from the front, but becomes transparent as soon as light shines through from behind. This makes Gobelin tulle ideally suited to scenographic effects where the set needs to suddenly become visible or invisible — a technique widely used in theatre, opera and TV productions. If you are looking for a fully opaque background fabric, please see Deco Molton or Dimout. For a translucent fabric with a shimmering effect, see Metallic Carré Tulle or Voile CS.
In addition to theatrical applications, Gobelin tulle is also used as a decorative gauze backdrop, to soften light sources and as an atmospheric hanging fabric in event venues.
Available in white, black, grey and ecru. The CS variant is available in a width of 1070 cm — ideal for large installations without seams. All variants are certified as fire-retardant. Part of the fire-retardant textiles range.
